Yusuf v. Dreamfund Holdings Inc. et al
In the case of Yusuf v. Dreamfund Holdings Inc. et al dated April 12, 2023, involved investments made by the plaintiff Issa Yusuf upon the defendants' invitation. Various corporate entities linked to the defendant Isaac Jr. Olowolafe, also known as Temitope Olowolafe, were implicated. The corporate entities comprised Dreamfund Holdings Inc., 10268054 Canada Corp., and Dreammaker Realty Inc., also known as Dream Maker Developments Inc. Despite the defendants' absence and lack of legal representation at the trial, judgment was granted in favor of the plaintiff against all defendants, jointly and severally, for a sum of $516,248.96. The plaintiff's costs, including disbursements and HST, were set at $20,000. The plaintiff’s statement of claim had alleged that Olowolafe, the principal director of the aforementioned corporations, had enticed the plaintiff to invest in various projects. The defendants' responses were absent, and although a Notice of Intent to Defend had been submitted, it was not filed with the court. The plaintiff's evidence during the trial consisted of direct testimony by Dr. Issa Yusuf, a medical specialist, detailing his investment interactions with Olowolafe. Despite the investments' expected returns by specified dates, no payments were received by the plaintiff. Correspondence and agreements detailing payment schedules were presented as evidence, showing the plaintiff's willingness to renegotiate repayment terms. Judgment was passed in favor of the plaintiff, along with interest and costs, against all defendants.
