On November 6, 2023, Oxford Nanopore Technologies plc acquired Northern Nanopore Instruments (NNi), a Canadian biotech startup specializing in solid-state nanopore fabrication. The deal strengthens Oxford Nanopore’s technology pipeline and patent portfolio, supporting its long-term goal of expanding nanopore-based molecular sensing beyond DNA/RNA analysis.

NNi’s team will collaborate with Oxford Nanopore and the University of Ottawa to scale solid-state nanopore fabrication, with a focus on developing nanopore arrays.
