On April 9, 2025, OpenGate Capital entered into a binding agreement to sell Player One Amusement Group to GENDA Co., Ltd. (TSE: 9166), marking GENDA’s strategic expansion into the North American amusement services market. The deal closed on July 2, 2025. While financial terms were not disclosed, the transaction follows OpenGate’s 2024 acquisition of Player One from Cineplex Inc. via a corporate carve-out.
Headquartered in Toronto, Player One operates across Canada and the U.S., supplying amusement gaming equipment and providing outsourced operations and maintenance to theaters, resorts, golf entertainment centers, trampoline parks, and bowling alleys. It also sources, distributes, and maintains equipment for commercial and retail venues, enhancing client profitability and consumer experiences.
Under OpenGate’s ownership, Player One underwent a full carve-out, implemented ERP and HRIS systems, expanded its leadership and commercial teams, introduced value-based pricing, and rolled out cashless operations in both countries. These initiatives helped establish the company as a high-performing standalone platform.
The sale represents OpenGate’s fourth full exit in 18 months, following Fiven, SMAC, and Verdant Specialty Solutions. GENDA’s acquisition adds a North American presence to its global entertainment portfolio, reinforcing its commitment to experiential entertainment and operational growth.
