This transition, finalized in March 2024, marks Relic's first return to independence since its acquisition by THQ in 2004. The move comes after a challenging period, including the release of Company of Heroes 3 in February 2023, which received mixed reviews, and subsequent layoffs totaling 162 employees between May 2023 and April 2024. Emona Capital's investment aims to support Relic's existing IPs and facilitate partnerships with other publishers, enabling the studio to pursue both large-scale strategy games and smaller, innovative projects.
