On Dec. 15, 2022, Canadian Mobility Services Limited (CMS), a subsidiary of Shell Canada Limited, entered into an agreement to acquire 56 fuel and convenience retail sites from Empire Company Limited via its subsidiary, Sobeys Capital Incorporated (Sobeys). These sites are strategically located alongside Sobeys' grocery stores in Western Canada and western Ontario. This acquisition is in line with Shell's Powering Progress strategy, aiming to amplify its Mobility presence in its core global markets. The move allows an increased reach of the Shell brand in major Canadian cities, offering renowned products such as V-Power Nitro+, Shell Go+, and AIR MILES Reward Miles. Kent Martin, GM Shell Canada Mobility, commented on the acquisition, emphasizing the company's commitment to growth and leadership during the energy transition. The newly acquired locations will cater to diverse fueling needs, including Shell Recharge electric vehicle charging and other eco-friendly options. Furthermore, they plan to boost non-fuel sales via an improved convenience retail offering. The deal, pending regulatory approval and the fulfillment of closing conditions, is projected to finalize in mid-2023. Subsequently, the acquired stations will be under CMS's ownership, adopting the Shell branding.
