On May 23, 2025, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) obtained a receivership order against Ontario-based Cacoeli Asset Management Inc. and its affiliated entities following allegations of investor fraud. Cacoeli, which operates in real estate private equity and asset management, is accused of misleading investors since approximately June 2021 by raising funds to acquire and redevelop undervalued residential rental properties. The OSC began investigating the firm in December 2023, leading to the appointment of Grant Thornton as interim monitor under section 129 of the Ontario Securities Act in February 2025. Grant Thornton has now been confirmed as the court-appointed receiver. Cacoeli has appealed the receivership decision.
