Bucephalas Stables obtains court-approved sale

Bucephalas Stables Corp., operating as Indie Alehouse Brewing Co., recently obtained court approval for a sale transaction as part of its insolvency proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. The Ontario-based craft brewer, which operates both a production facility in Niagara Falls and retail locations including a brewpub in Toronto and a restaurant in Eataly, Yorkville, faced significant financial challenges following the loss of $760,000 in equipment deposits due to a supplier’s receivership in 2018 and further pressures from the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time of filing its Notice of Intention to Make a Proposal (NOI) on July 7, 2025, the company reported approximately $6.8 million in liabilities, including nearly $3 million owed to the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and approximately $800,000 to the Bank of Montreal (BMO). The court-approved sale was facilitated with Fuller Landau acting as the proposal trustee. Legal advisors involved in the proceedings included Miller Thomson for Bucephalas Stables Corp., Aird & Berlis for the proposal trustee, Torkin Manes for BMO, and Blaney McMurtry for BDC. The transaction value itself was not publicly disclosed in the available sources.
