Wheaton Precious Metals to acquire Lumina Gold's Ecuador-based gold-copper project for $300 million

On May 16, 2023, Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. and its subsidiary, Wheaton Precious Metals International Ltd., have entered into a definitive Precious Metal Purchase Agreement with Lumina Gold Corp. regarding the Cangrejos gold-copper project in Ecuador. Wheaton will pay Lumina $300 million (405,676,500.00 CAD) upfront for a Gold Stream, allowing them to purchase 6.6% of the payable gold until 700,000 ounces have been delivered, and 4.4% of the payable gold for the mine's life. The project is expected to be a high-margin mine with a 26-year life. Wheaton's CEO expressed excitement about the acquisition, emphasizing responsible and sustainable mining practices. The deal also includes increased gold reserves and resources for Wheaton.
