On May 12, 2026, Coincheck Group N.V. announced a strategic partnership with KDDI Corporation aimed at broadening mainstream access to digital assets in Japan. The transaction has two components: (i) a minority equity investment by KDDI in Coincheck Group, and (ii) a business alliance agreement between KDDI and Coincheck, Inc., a subsidiary of Coincheck Group that operates one of Japan's largest digital asset exchanges. Under the share subscription and investor rights agreement, KDDI agreed to subscribe for 28,536,516 newly issued Coincheck Group ordinary shares at a price of US$2.28 per share, for an aggregate cash purchase price of approximately US$65,063,256.48. KDDI received registration rights in respect of the acquired shares and the right to nominate one individual for appointment to the Coincheck Group board as a non-executive director at the company's next annual general meeting. The commercial alliance is intended to combine KDDI's distribution reach and consumer interfaces, including its "au", "UQ mobile" and "povo" brands, with Coincheck's crypto asset platform, custody, staking and asset management capabilities, in order to reduce onboarding friction and expand practical day-to-day use cases. The transaction is also being implemented alongside Coincheck Group's acquisition of approximately 99.8 percent beneficial ownership of 3iQ Corp., a Canadian digital asset manager.
