On June 11, 2026, the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority (TransLink), Metro Vancouver's regional transportation authority, issued $300,000,000 aggregate principal amount of 3.85 percent green bonds due December 1, 2035. The bonds were issued through TransLink's direct capital borrowing program and represented the first green bond issuance under TransLink's updated green bond framework and sustainability framework.
Net proceeds from the issuance will be used to finance or refinance, in whole or in part, existing and ongoing capital projects that provide environmental benefits to TransLink and the Metro Vancouver region, including projects in the clean transportation, low carbon energy, energy efficiency, and climate change adaptation categories. Historical uses of green bond proceeds by TransLink have included cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, SkyTrain station upgrades, refurbishment of transit vehicles, and battery-electric buses and associated charging infrastructure.
TransLink is the first non-corporate transit agency in Canada to raise funds directly through the Canadian debt capital markets. Since 2010, TransLink has raised more than $2.78 billion through longer-term bond issuances. The June 2026 issuance brings TransLink's cumulative green bond issuance to more than $2 billion since the inaugural transaction in November 2018, which itself was the first green bond issued by a Canadian transit authority. TransLink's credit ratings at the time of issuance were Aa2 (stable) by Moody's Investors Service and AA by Morningstar DBRS.
