Harris Computer, an operating group of Toronto-based Constellation Software Inc. (TSX: CSU), announced the acquisition of Toronto-based restaurant point-of-sale software vendor TouchBistro Inc. on July 7, 2026. Neither side disclosed financial terms of the deal. However, two sources told The Globe and Mail that Harris paid $100-million for the company. TouchBistro sells point-of-sale technology to restaurants and had raised hundreds of millions in venture capital and debt from big-name investors. The reported price represented a significant capital loss for investors, leaving employees with essentially nothing for their common shares. The biggest loser was pension giant OMERS: its venture capital arm invested about $40-million while its growth equity unit put $100-million into the company when it led a $158-million financing in 2019 — and it will get about $2-million from the sale. A further $150-million financing came from private equity firm Francisco Partners in November 2022. Constellation has traditionally acquired smaller, slow-growing, founder-led software firms, but two years ago adopted a strategy of buying unprofitable VC-backed companies that had fallen short of their goals; the TouchBistro purchase is one of its biggest under that strategy. Harris says TouchBistro now powers more than 16,000 restaurants in over 100 countries.
