Yorkville University, an indirect portfolio company of Birch Hill, announced on July 8, 2026, its intention to acquire Beal University Canada ("BUC"), a private nursing university operating in Sackville and Miramichi, New Brunswick. The transaction is subject to applicable regulatory approvals, conditional designation requirements, and other closing conditions, and is expected to close in September 2026 in time for the start of the fall semester.
The transaction is designed to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of nursing education in New Brunswick at a time of increasing demand for healthcare professionals. Following closing, BUC's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will continue to be delivered with no changes to curriculum, clinical hours, or academic standards, and students will continue their studies without interruption toward a degree meeting College of Nurses of New Brunswick licensure requirements. Faculty and staff are expected to be retained as part of the transition.
Yorkville University, established in 2004, is a private Canadian institution offering online and on-campus programs across business, education, design, and the creative arts, with existing campuses in New Brunswick, Ontario, and British Columbia. Beal University Canada, established in 2023, offers a 30-month hybrid BScN program combining online learning with on-campus simulation labs and clinical placements. The New Brunswick government has granted Yorkville University a conditional designation under the Degree Granting Act, and the College of Nurses of New Brunswick is reviewing the program's transition.
