Ivanhoe Mines announces US$500 million strategic investment from Qatar Investment Authority

On September 17, 2025, Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. announced a US$500 million strategic investment from the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the sovereign wealth fund of the State of Qatar. Under the private placement, Ivanhoe Mines issued 57,516,666 common shares to QIA at a price of $12.00 per share, for aggregate gross proceeds of approximately US$500 million. Upon completion, QIA holds approximately 4 percent of Ivanhoe Mines' issued and outstanding common shares. The company intends to use the proceeds to advance growth opportunities related to the exploration, development, and mining of critical minerals, as well as for general corporate purposes. Concurrent with closing, and pursuant to a pre-existing investor rights agreement, Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd. exercised its right to acquire 8,004,800 additional common shares at the same $12.00 issue price to maintain its pro rata interest of approximately 12.2 percent, generating a further approximately US$70 million for Ivanhoe. CITIC Metal Africa Investments Limited waived its right to acquire additional shares. Ivanhoe Mines is a Canadian mining company focused on three principal projects in Southern Africa: the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex and the Kipushi zinc-copper-germanium-silver mine, both in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Platreef platinum-group-metals mine in South Africa. The investment closed on September 29, 2025.
