Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) and Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) announced on February 27, 2026 a joint agreement to acquire atNorth, a pan-Nordic high-density colocation and built-to-suit data center operator, from Partners Group at an enterprise value of US$4.0 billion. At announcement, CPP Investments planned to invest approximately US$1.6 billion for a c. 60% controlling interest, with Equinix holding the remaining c. 40%. The parties provisionally agreed a US$4.2 billion (€3.6 billion) financing package underwritten by European and Canadian lenders. The transaction closed on September 2, 2026. At closing, Partners Group elected to re-invest and acquire c. 10% of atNorth (US$260 million commitment), which reduced CPP Investments' stake to c. 51% (US$1.3 billion) and Equinix's to c. 34% (US$895 million), with the remainder held by atNorth management rolling over equity. The closing financing package totaled US$4.1 billion (€3.6 billion). atNorth, headquartered in Reykjavik, operates eight data centers and several development sites across Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and continues to operate independently under its existing brand.
