Vontas, a Modaxo company, acquired Orion Labs, a San Francisco-based voice-first collaboration platform known for its instant, secure voice, location, and data messaging services. This acquisition, announced by Vontas, aims to enhance its Vontas OnTransit solution by integrating Orion's communication technologies, including Push-to-Talk 2.0, a web dispatch console, mobile apps, location services, and AI-driven features like real-time voice translation and voice bots support. Peter Aczel, General Manager of Vontas, emphasized the strategic fit of Orion's products within their integrated, modular ITS solution, highlighting the addition of new modules such as translation and digital vehicle inspection capabilities sought by transit agencies. The transaction is poised to bolster Vontas's ability to offer improved IP-based communication solutions, ensuring reliable and redundant voice and data communication for transit agencies. Aczel outlined the immediate goal of integrating Orion's customers and staff into Vontas operations, expressing enthusiasm for the partnership. Simon Ferguson, Senior Vice President at Modaxo, also welcomed Orion, noting its AI-powered voice communication as a valuable addition to Vontas and Modaxo's offerings, with potential benefits for digitizing critical workflows in the people transportation industry.
