The ex-court justices are joined by Stephen L. Drymer and Doug Mitchell
Canadian international alternative dispute resolution company Arbitration Place has established a base in Montreal with former court justices François Rolland, Clément Gascon, and Robert Mainville among its arbitrators and mediators.
Rolland was once the Superior Court of Quebec’s chief justice. He logged a stint with Langlois Lawyers in Montreal as a mediator and arbitrator.
Gascon was a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, the Quebec Court of Appeal, and the Quebec Superior Court. He was also a counsel at Woods LLP in Montreal.
Mainville was a justice of the Federal Court of Appeal, the Quebec Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court. He was a partner at Gowling WLG in Montreal.
The former court justices are joined by Woods LLP partner and international arbitration head Stephen L. Drymer and by IMK founder Doug Mitchell, who was amicus curiae at the Quebec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Arbitration Place chairman and CEO Jeffrey Mandell said that Rolland, Gascon, Mainville, Drymer, and Mitchell were “among the most respected and accomplished neutrals in the country.” Gascon said Arbitration Place’s expansion bolstered the Montreal, Quebec, and Canadian arbitration landscape for those involved in local, national, or international disputes.
Drymer added that the Montreal expansion helped not just the Montreal and Quebec markets but Canada as a whole and global markets.
“It is an honor for me to join an exceptional roster of arbitrators who can serve the pan-Canadian arbitration needs of Canadian and foreign enterprises and governments in both official languages and with knowledge of both the civil law and common law judicial cultures,” Mainville said in a statement.
The Montreal branch is Arbitration Place’s fifth base after Toronto, Ottawa, the Cayman Islands, and Miami.
“Our expansion into Montreal marks an important milestone in Arbitration Place's continued growth across Canada and internationally,” Mandell said.
Arbitration Place is a neutral service provider that handles ad hoc and institutional arbitrations.
