The litigator concentrates on commercial litigation, construction law and professional liability
MLT Aikins has expanded its partnership with the addition of litigator Kember Handzic to the advocacy group in its Edmonton office.
Handzic concentrates on commercial litigation, construction law and professional liability matters. He has tackled corporate commercial disputes, construction and infrastructure litigation, landlord and tenant matters, loss of property and personal injury insurance claims and professional liability litigation.
He has represented clients before all levels of Alberta court and before administrative tribunals. He has also appeared before courts in Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.
Before moving to MLT Aikins, he had spent over 21 years as a lawyer at Edmonton firm Emery Jamieson LLP, per LinkedIn.
Handzic is part of the Law Society of Alberta and of the Canadian Bar Association. He obtained his LLB at the University of Alberta in 2004 and was called to the Alberta Bar a year later.
Handzic is the latest partner appointment by MLT Aikins. Earlier this month, Michael O’Brien, also a litigator, joined the Calgary office’s partnership.
In June, the firm also welcomed Saul Joseph, Melanee Bryniawsky, and Jared Knott to its Vancouver branch to strengthen its expertise in matters involving Indigenous businesses, Aboriginal rights and interests, and First Nations and Métis communities. Joseph, who is a partner with the firm and is part of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), has advised Indigenous leaders and entrepreneurs in designing and implementing commercial ventures reflecting Indigenous perspectives.
He has also helped champion and protect Aboriginal and treaty rights, governance, and business matters.
Moreover, MLT Aikins added partners Erika Carrasco and Riley Graydon to its team in May. Carrasco operates in Calgary as a specialist in litigation and emerging technology law, handling matters involving litigation and emerging technology law.
Graydon made the jump from Osler and practises in the emerging technology space from the Vancouver office.
