Rose Campbell and Marc Philippe Savoie have been appointed sitting judges in Woodstock and Moncton, respectively.

Campbell is based in Fredericton while Savoie hails from Dieppe. With their appointments, the number of full-time provincial court judges has increased to 28, including chief judge Brian C. McLean and associate chief judge Mélanie Poirier LeBlanc.

Prior to joining the provincial court, Campbell worked with the Office of the Attorney General’s constitutional law unit. She spent 15 years at the attorney general’s office.

She was called to the bar in 2010 and began serving as a Crown prosecutor that year. She was also a clerk assistant for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, according to LinkedIn.

Campbell obtained her bachelor of laws from the University of New Brunswick and her master of laws from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Savoie previously worked with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, where he commenced in 2017. He logged a nearly decade-long stint with the New Brunswick’s Crown Prosecutors Office as well.

He was called to the bar in 2006. He holds bachelor’s degrees in business administration and laws from the Université de Moncton.

New Brunswick justice minister Robert McKee highlighted Campbell and Savoie’s professionalism and experience as key assets in their new roles.

“Making sure people have fair, reliable access to justice is one of the most important things a government can do. Becoming a judge is a real honour, but it also comes with big responsibilities. It takes not just legal skill, but good judgment, empathy and integrity,” McKee said in a statement.

In addition to the full-time court judges, the provincial courts also have two supernumerary judges and eight per diem judges. Judge Karen Lee has also been tapped to help and launch and sit in New Brunswick’s first virtual bail court as a travelling judge.

Recently, Robert Dysart joined the New Brunswick Court of Appeal as a judge in Fredericton.
