The Law Foundation of Saskatchewan has launched its 2025–26 legacy grant funding program, with grants available for innovative and bold capacity-building projects that aim to achieve practical and lasting impacts for individuals, organizations, communities, and/or broader systems.

According to a news release from the law foundation, non-profit organizations or registered charities can access one-time grants of at least $50,000, with a total of $5 million in funding available to eligible applicants.

The law foundation noted that eligible proposals should have a maximum duration of three years, primarily benefit Saskatchewan residents, and have objectives related to legal education, legal research, legal aid, law libraries, or law reform.

The law foundation noted that it values or prioritizes project proposals that seek to promote access to justice, employ effective ways of assessing impacts, and have in-kind and/or other funding sources.

The law foundation emphasized that it would consider proposals for collaborative projects among organizations, diverse kinds and sizes of projects, projects aiming to attain transformational changes or more commonplace impacts, and capital and pilot projects exploring and experimenting with novel ideas or approaches.

However, the law foundation noted that it could not guarantee ongoing funding.

The law foundation encouraged those interested to:

  • Fill out the expression of interest form on its website
  • Offer a brief overview of the proposed project
  • Include enough detail to help the law foundation decide whether it should move the project to the second stage of the application process, with those advancing needing to file a complete application with all the particulars
  • Submit their proposals to info@lawfoundation.sk.ca by 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 10

Regular grants

The law foundation’s website also discussed the process for applicants with proposals for innovative programs and initiatives aiming to advance accessible justice to obtain operating funding and special project support through the regular grants program.

The law foundation explained that applicants for regular grants should also be pursuing projects in the areas of legal education, legal research, legal aid, law libraries, and law reform.

The law foundation shared that its board schedules quarterly meetings to consider regular grant applications. The law foundation noted the following upcoming deadlines to submit proposals for the regular grant funding program:

  • Nov. 10 for its Dec. 8 meeting
  • February 2026 for its March 2026 meeting
  • May 2026 for its June 2026 meeting
