She was once vice president of education at the International Legal Technology Association
Consultant Marti Phillips will head up the global legal technology program at international independent law firm alliance Meritas.
Phillips makes the move from Chicago law firm Goldberg Kohn, where she was training and support manager. As head of the Meritas legal technology program, she will guide the program’s strategy and maximize engagement.
She will also advise Meritas member firms reviewing and implementing new technology solutions. She will foster strategic partnerships with legal tech product and service providers and cultivate opportunities for the program to add value to members by using technology to boost operations and efficiency.
“Marti brings deep knowledge of our membership, since she comes to us from our Chicago member firm, where she empowered lawyers and staff with the skills to effectively use legal technology,” said Sona Pancholy, Meritas’ president, in a statement. “Her consulting skills and deep knowledge of legal tech will be invaluable as we grow and scale the program.”
Phillips was vice president of education at the International Legal Technology Association from July 2019 to 2020 and was director of learning and development at Encoretech from July 2020 to August 2022. Moreover, she was assistant vice president for business affairs at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University from October 2017 to July 2019.
For over 13 years, she worked with Andrews Kurth Kenyon, serving as director of knowledge management, collaborating, and training at one point.
“Technology is reshaping every aspect of how law firms deliver value, and Meritas has positioned itself as a leader in supporting independent law firms with this unique program. The members embrace change together. I look forward to continuing to advance our firms’ competitiveness and reputation for client service through technology,” Phillips said.
Meritas debuted its legal technology program in 2023 to offer legal technology advisory services to member firms. A special interest group comprising technology professionals was created to exchange best practices and use cases.
This year, Meritas introduced the Legal Tech Education Program, which engages information technology services companies to develop bespoke IT curricula for its members.
