Both sides agreed to have the case dismissed with prejudice
Lucasfilm and parent company The Walt Disney Co. have settled a federal suit filed by actor Gina Carano in California court over her supposed wrongful termination from the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” reported the Associated Press.
The case had been set for a February 2026 trial in Los Angeles. Per a federal court filing, both parties agreed to have the case dismissed with prejudice.
Carano had sued Lucasfilm and Disney last year following her dismissal from the cast of the Star Wars show in February 2021. The ex-mixed martial artist had played the character Cara Dune for two of “The Mandalorian’s” three seasons.
She received backlash in the form of the #FireGinaCarano outcry online for social media posts that mocked the wearing of masks during the COVID-19 pandemic and pushed claims of voter fraud in the 2020 US presidential election. She also made a post that compared American conservatives’ treatment to that of Jews in Nazi Germany.
In her suit, Carano claimed that she had been terminated for publicizing her personal opinions against what she called “online bully mob who demanded her compliance with their extreme progressive ideology,” per a snippet published by AP News. The actor revealed that billionaire businessman Elon Musk had helped finance her suit while “asking for nothing in return,” per a statement published by AP News.
The case is pending formal dismissal by a judge.
Carano stated her intent to continue working in the arts, and Lucasfilm floated the possibility of future collaborations with Carano following the settlement agreement, the terms of which have not been publicized.
“Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future,” Lucasfilm said in a statement published by AP News.
“The Mandalorian” series is being followed by the movie “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” which is slated for release next summer.
