The new entity is expected to be among the world’s biggest transatlantic law firms
This coming May, Winston & Strawn LLP and Taylor Wessing’s UK arm are set to officially merge into the new entity Winston Taylor.
Winston Taylor is expected to be among the world’s biggest transatlantic law firms, employing over 1,400 lawyers across the US, the UK, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The combination was approved by the partnerships of both Winston & Strawn and Taylor Wessing UK.
The merger facilitates Winston & Strawn’s expansion in London while enabling Taylor Wessing UK’s entry into the US market. News of the potential combination first came out in December 2025.
Taylor Wessing the Netherlands and Belgium also voted to ink an agreement that it would join the Winston Taylor umbrella. These regions are eventually expected to integrate completely into Winston Taylor’s US and UK operations as one firm once approvals have been secured.
Winston Taylor also entered into a cooperation and referral arrangement with Taylor Wessing verein, in Germany and elsewhere.
“This combination creates a transatlantic law firm in the major hubs of innovation and capital in the US, Europe, and the Middle East,” said Shane Gleghorn, Taylor Wessing UK’s managing partner, in a Winston & Strawn media release. “Our clients require a firm with premier teams in those hubs in relation to critical transactions, litigation, IP and private wealth.”
Gleghorn will become Winston Taylor’s managing partner of Europe and Middle East, joining its executive committee. Winston & Strawn chairman Steve D’Amore will lead the firm as chairman.
Winston Taylor will open its doors following a period of partner-led integration, Winston & Strawn said. It will establish 20 offices across Amsterdam, Brussels, Cambridge, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Dubai, Dublin, Eindhoven, Houston, Liverpool, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris, San Francisco, São Paulo, Silicon Valley, and Washington DC.
Taylor Wessing’s UK arm includes its operations in the UK, Ireland, and Dubai. It also covers lawyers in San Francisco.
