Gowling WLG has added corporate lawyer Pascal de Guise to its partnership in Montréal.

de Guise was previously a partner at Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP. He brings his expertise in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, private placements, public offerings, venture capital, fund formation, plans of arrangement, and governance matters.

He has worked with clients in the technology, telecom, media, life sciences, financial services, energy, and natural resources sectors on high-value transactions. Names he has advised include Bell, Investissement Québec, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Desjardins and CPP Investments.

de Guise chairs the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association’s venture capital and fund formation working groups. He is also on the Autorité des marchés financiers’ corporate advisory committee and is fluent in English and French. He was previously Canadian Club of Montréal chair and sat on the Montréal Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation’s board.

“Businesses are navigating heightened complexity as they pursue growth, investment and strategic transactions in an increasingly dynamic market. Pascal’s ability to combine deep market insight with proven transactional execution enables him to guide clients through these challenges with confidence, making him a valuable addition to our practice,” said Pam Vermeersch, Gowling WLG’s corporate department leader, in a statement.

de Guise told Canadian Lawyer that he became interested in the law due to his time in student government. Seeking an international platform, he joined Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP and worked in its New York office before jumping to BCF LLP. He got involved in knowledge management and document management systems and also worked directly with Quebec businesses. He then moved to Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where he honed his leadership skills.

He was recognized by Lexpert in the fields of corporate mid-market; corporate commercial law; corporate finance and securities; environmental, social, and governance; private equity; and M&A.
