The British Columbia government has announced the appointments of Michael Lefebure and Christina Proteau as two new judges to the Provincial Court of British Columbia, scheduled to be sworn in on Jan. 5, 2026.

“It is my great pleasure and privilege to announce that the Lieutenant Governor in Council has signed Orders in Council appointing two judges to the Provincial Court,” Chief Judge Melissa Gillespie said in a news release from the court.

The court’s news release noted the new judicial appointees have received the following assignments:

  • Lefebure: Fraser region, with chambers in Chilliwack
  • Proteau: Vancouver Island region, with chambers in Nanaimo

In its news release, the provincial government explained that the two new additions seek to promote timely and efficient access to justice, as well as equip the courts with the necessary judicial resources to address the demands of the justice system and serve British Columbians.

Previously, in early November, the Provincial Court announced the appointments of Diba Majzub and Megan Olson as judges and Janine Main and Joanna Nefs as judicial justices.

The BC government’s and the court’s news releases provided more information regarding Lefebure’s and Proteau’s professional experience.
