Canada’s leading labour and employment law firms for 2026–27 have offered clients authoritative legal insight, quality advice, and speedy service amid the country’s increasingly complex and consequential labour and employment landscape, where workplace decisions carry more significant legal impact.

Organizations expect early advisory work, with employers engaging counsel before finalizing decisions. Thus, labour and employment lawyers who can not only manage disputes but also guide strategy stand out among their peers.

Clients also consider team design when choosing labour and employment law boutiques. Thus, firms that incorporate shared knowledge, talent development, and matter continuity are in a better position to maintain service levels.

Moreover, organizations prefer labour and employment boutiques with business fluency, specifically those that can contextualize legal options within business realities and help organizations confidently address evolving obligations.

Celene Hoag, founder and chief executive officer of Chops Consulting, shares that leading firms can provide a reliable client experience, offer deep subject matter experience for each file, and establish a reputation through positive results.

“Boutiques that consistently secure favourable settlements, win wrongful dismissal cases, or successfully defend employers against human rights complaints build reputations of excellence in their fields and can set their fees accordingly,” Hoag tells Canadian Lawyer.

Choosing the winners

In October 2025, Canadian Lawyer invited readers nationwide to consider eligible boutiques focusing on labour and employment law. Readers ranked these firms, with the option to nominate a firm not included in the preliminary list.

The team received 394 votes across 45 nominated firms. The final results reflected quantitative reader rankings, peer insights from the Lexpert survey, and regional representation.

The top labour and employment law boutiques for 2026–27 include Crawford Munroe Thomson LLP, Harris & Company LLP, and Sherrard Kuzz LLP

“We truly want to work with the client in partnership and help them decide pragmatically what is the best decision for them,” says Kacey Krenn, a partner at Harris & Company who belongs to its executive committee.

“One of our firm’s core values is that we partner with our clients to co-create solutions; it’s always about them and never about us,” says Erin Kuzz, a partner at Sherrard Kuzz.
