McInnes Cooper has announced a merger with management-side labour, employment, and immigration law boutique Barteaux Labour and Employment Lawyers Inc. (BLE), with BLE’s three lawyers and all its other members joining McInnes Cooper as of Aug. 11.

BLE also has an articled clerk and four staff members, according to a news release from McInnes Cooper.

“BLE is a boutique firm comprised of highly talented labour and employment and immigration professionals,” said Kevin Kiley, McInnes Cooper managing partner, in the news release. “Their addition to our team further enhances our position as leaders in Atlantic Canada in those practice areas.”

“I’m excited about the opportunities this creates for our clients and our team,” said Nancy F. Barteaux, BLE founder and principal, in the news release.

The news release noted that BLE has clients across the energy, fishing, paper, IT, post-secondary, public, and quasi-public sectors, among others.

“By consolidating our resources, knowledge and experience, we will bring even stronger bench strength and expertise to clients on both sides on this merger,” Barteaux said in the news release.

In its news release, McInnes Cooper said the merger would enhance its experience and resources in the labour, employment, and immigration areas, as well as enable it to provide complementary offerings to BLE’s client base.

“With the merger, we continue our growth, allowing us to provide leading strategic advice and solutions to clients in Atlantic Canada, across the country and beyond,” Kiley said in the firm’s news release

“I was a partner with McInnes Cooper earlier in my career before establishing a boutique practice, so it is serendipitous that I am back again to continue with a firm that is focused on growth, engagement of its members, and the pursuit of innovative solutions to the benefit of all our clients,” Barteaux said in the news release.

In its news release, McInnes Cooper shared that it is one of Canada’s 20 biggest law firms and a member of Lex Mundi, a network of independent law firms.

McInnes Cooper has more than 500 lawyers and professional resources. It has seven offices located in Charlottetown, Fredericton, Halifax, Moncton, Saint John, St. John’s, and Sydney.
