She was in-house counsel at a restaurant group while away from Vancouver firm
Harper Grey LLP has announced that Kara Hill has returned to the Vancouver-based law firm as counsel in its health law practice, effective Feb. 23.
According to the announcement from Harper Grey, she practised insurance, personal injury, and health law at the firm for more than a decade, then departed for an in-house counsel role with Joey Restaurant Group in Vancouver.
In its news release, Harper Grey noted that Hill has followed her passion to focus exclusively on the regulation of health care professionals.
“We are excited she has decided to return to private practice and to welcome her back to Harper Grey!” said the firm’s news release.

Hill’s biography on the firm’s website provided more information regarding her professional credentials, organizational involvement, publication credits, and educational background.
“Kara takes a thorough yet practical approach to her legal work and is known for balancing tenacity with collegiality,” her firm bio stated.
Hill’s experience has included representing regulated health professionals in various matters relating to their regulatory bodies, hospitals, health authorities, and the government.
She has advised and acted for health professionals in regulatory and compliance matters, including complaints, practice investigations, disciplinary proceedings, and billing audits.
“Kara brings a practical and empathetic approach to her work, expertly guiding professionals through complex and often stressful processes with diligence and care,” her firm bio stated.
At the Pacific Community Resources Society, Hill has served as a board member beginning in 2017, as the board’s vice chair from 2018–21 and 2023–25, as nomination committee chair from 2023–25, and as governance committee chair from 2018–21.
She has been a member of the Canadian Bar Association’s BC branch, the Law Society of British Columbia, and the Vancouver Bar Association.
Hill has mentored multiple law students and junior women lawyers. She has also been a contributing author for publications such as blogs and newsletters on topics relating to administrative justice, administrative law, and insurance law.
She earned admission to the BC bar in 2013. She obtained her JD from the University of Manitoba in 2012 and her BA with distinction from the University of Victoria in 2008.
