INQ Law, a Toronto-based law firm, has announced the appointment of partner Brent Arnold, who has more than two decades of experience in privacy, cybersecurity, and commercial litigation. 

“A respected leader at the intersection of law and technology, Brent brings deep expertise in complex litigation, cyber risk, and data breach response,” the firm said in a LinkedIn post welcoming Arnold to the team.

In the realm of litigation, INQ Law noted that Arnold has appeared before all levels of Ontario’s courts and before the Supreme Court of Canada. 

According to his biography on the firm’s website, his practice areas also include data breach coaching, cyber preparedness, artificial intelligence (AI), Web3, cryptocurrency, risk management, and administrative law. 

The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2025 recognized Arnold as consistently recommended in data privacy and cybersecurity. He also appeared in Lexpert Special Edition: Technology 2025. 

Beyond INQ Law

According to his Lexpert profile, Arnold was previously a partner and head of the commercial litigation technology sub-group at Capstan Legal. 

He has served as director and corporate secretary for the Internet Society’s Canadian chapter and as steering committee chair for the US-based Defence Research Institute’s cybersecurity and data privacy section. 

Arnold was vice chair of the International Association of Defence Counsel’s cyber security, data privacy, and technology committee. He also chaired the Ontario Bar Association’s privacy and access to information law section and co-authored the Advocate Society’s Paperless Trials Manual. 

According to his firm biography, he has chaired the Canadian Internet Society, a think tank promoting open, accessible, affordable, and secure internet access. He has also served in leadership roles at the Canadian Bar Association and the Advocates’ Society. 

As a frequent public speaker, Arnold has appeared multiple times on CBC Television and CBC Radio and hosted the Net Positive podcast. National newspapers have quoted him. 

Per his INQ Law bio, he holds a JD and an MA. 

INQ Law’s managing partner, Carole Piovesan, recently appeared in an episode of CL Talk, Canadian Lawyer’s podcast. 

During the June 2025 episode, she talked about the response of the legal profession to AI’s rising influence, evolving regulations, and the issues arising from incorporating new technologies into legal practice. 

Piovesan’s discussion also covered privacy law as a proxy for AI regulation, the shifting concept of responsible AI, and potential adjustments among business models and billing structures. She touched upon these matters at the Canadian Legal Summit in Toronto in October 2025.
