Tax dispute lawyer Jeff Glasner has joined the tax group at Farris LLP as a partner based in Vancouver.
He has guided individual and corporate taxpayers for over two decades. He has advised on audits, represented clients throughout the Canada Revenue Agency appeals process, and negotiated with the justice department in Canada’s tax court.
Glasner has handled CRA-related matters including those involving home sellers, the restaurant industry, the Net Worth Audit technique, non-arm’s length transfer assessments, and supposed corporate GST and payroll account arrears by directors.
He previously chaired the Canadian Bar Association’s (BC Branch) taxation law subsection. He is part of the BC Law Society, CBA, and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Glasner was admitted to the BC Bar in 2005. He received his JD in 2004 from the University of Victoria.
Kirsten Kjellander joins as counsel
Farris also appointed Kirsten Kjellander as a counsel in the tax group. She has advised on domestic and international Canadian corporate tax matters for 20 years.
She concentrates on matters involving M&A, cross-border investment, and corporate reorganizations. Before making the jump to Farris, she was a national avoidance technical advisor at the CRA.
Kjellander was also a partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and recorded a stint at KPMG as senior manager of international corporate tax and an associate at KPMG Law. Moreover, she was an associate at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, per LinkedIn.
She holds a masters degree in US tax, although she is not a US law practitioner and does not directly advise on US tax issues. She is part of the International Fiscal Association, the CBA, and the BC Law Society.
In July 2024, Farris came under the leadership of Bo Rothstein as managing partner. The firm also counts senior associate and winery acquisitions specialist Megan O’Neill among its talent.
