Miller Thomson LLP has announced the appointment of Andrea Raso as a partner in the firm’s labour and employment group in its Vancouver office, effective Jan. 26. 

According to Miller Thomson’s news release, Raso is a workplace, labour, and employment lawyer with experience in advocacy and dispute resolution. She has advocated before all court levels and twice appeared successfully before the Supreme Court of Canada. 

“Andrea’s experience in high-stakes advocacy and mediation brings a distinctive perspective to complex workplace disputes,” said Adam Stephens, the firm’s disputes chair, in the news release. 

Miller Thomson shared that Raso has guided workplaces through complex challenges that have potentially impacted their operations, performance, and culture. She also aims to help clients manage risk, promote productivity, define their best attainable outcome and pursue it pragmatically and efficiently. 

“Her ability to balance risk, strategy, and resolution strengthens how the Firm supports clients in achieving practical, well-considered outcomes,” Stephens said in the news release

Raso’s practice also covers human resources matters, appellate law, class actions, and Indigenous legal services. Her experience spans the health, hospitality, manufacturing, mining, and entertainment and media industries.

Before joining Miller Thomson, Raso was a partner at Clark Wilson LLP, at Dentons (formerly Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP), and at Hicks Morley Hamilton Stewart Storie LLP. 

Beginning in April 2014, she worked at Clark Wilson in Vancouver, where she chaired its employment and labour group. She was with Dentons from March 2008 to April 2014 and with Hicks Morley Hamilton Stewart Storie LLP from 1992–2008. 

Raso received the Lexpert Zenith Award: Celebrating Leading Women Lawyers and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for diversity and inclusion initiatives. 

She earned admission to the bars of the Northwest Territories in 2011, of BC in 2008, and of Ontario in 1994. 

Raso holds a mediation certificate from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a mediation intensive certificate from Harvard Law School. She obtained her LLB from the University of Windsor in 1992 and her BA from the University of Toronto in 1989.
