Miller Thomson LLP has welcomed back John Israel Galambos – who brings over two decades of experience in corporate and individual taxation – as a Montreal-based partner in the firm’s tax and private client services groups, as of Oct. 20. 

“His experience representing clients in complex tax transactions will be a valuable resource for our clients and our colleagues,” said Claudia Desjardins Bélisle, managing partner of the firm’s Montreal office and leader of the national labour and employment group, in a news release. 

According to Miller Thomson’s news release, Galambos’ practice covers tax and estate planning, wills and trusts, corporate reorganizations, and asset protection. 

His clients include high-net-worth individuals, private companies, single and multi-family offices, public institutions, private foundations, charities, and not-for-profit organizations. 

Galambos frequently assists these clients with tax matters such as asset and share transactions, shareholders’ agreements, and employee stock option plans, as well as estate and shareholder disputes. 

According to his LinkedIn page, he worked as a lawyer and partner at Miller Thomson from December 2017 to August 2022. 

“John is known for his deep knowledge, clear advice, and strong leadership,” Bélisle said in the news release. “I am happy to have him back on my team.”

According to his LinkedIn page, Galambos was a partner and co-leader of the family office in Quebec at KPMG Law LLP, which he joined in September 2022. There, he guided affluent individuals, family offices, and wealth advisors through sophisticated tax and succession planning matters. 

He was a tax, estates, and corporate reorganizations lawyer at Spiegel Sohmer Inc. from 2012–17 and a tax lawyer at McMillan LLP from 2005–12. 

According to his biography on the firm's website, Galambos joined the Quebec bar in 2005 and the Ontario bar in 2022. The firm’s news release noted his contributions on the boards of multiple local and national community and charitable organizations. 

His firm bio stated that he earned his BA in psychology from McGill University in 1997, his LLB from Université de Montréal in 2003, and his JD from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2004. He can speak English, French, and Hungarian.
