Osler appoints Craig Lockwood as national chair of disputes

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP has announced the appointments of two partners to the following roles: Craig Lockwood as national chair of the firm’s disputes group and Sven Poysa as chair of its employment and labour group. 

“A recognized leader in our Disputes group, Craig has helped shape some of the largest class actions in Canadian history,” the firm said in a LinkedIn post

“A thought leader who speaks and writes widely, Sven will further strengthen our ability to deliver strategic, practical solutions to our clients’ most complex HR challenges,” Osler said in another LinkedIn post

According to the firm, Lockwood replaces Sonia Bjorkquist in the role, while Poysa succeeds Allan Wells. The LinkedIn posts provided more information regarding the two new practice chairs.

Apart from his contributions to Osler’s disputes practice, Lockwood has acted as a key contact for the firm’s product liability and class actions groups and chaired its student committee. 

Based in Toronto, he has garnered litigation experience across class proceedings, product liability, securities regulation, commercial banking, and arbitrations. 

Lockwood has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada numerous times and at all court levels in Ontario, Quebec, BC, and New Brunswick. 

He has served as a director of The Advocates’ Society and a member of the Ontario Securities Committee’s securities proceedings advisory committee. 

The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory has featured Lockwood as consistently recommended in the areas of corporate commercial litigation, product liability litigation, and class actions. He has also appeared in Lexpert’s special edition on litigation. 

According to his firm bio, he earned admission to the Ontario bar in 2002 and to the BC bar in 2022. He received his LLM from the University of Cambridge and his JD from the University of Toronto. 

Sven Poysa

Based in Toronto and Montreal, Poysa has advised local, national, and international companies. 

His experience spans a range of matters across employment and labour law, including executive employment arrangements, collective agreement administration, corporate transactions, and workforce restructurings. 

Poysa’s advocacy in courts and tribunals has focused on human rights, labour arbitrations, and wrongful dismissal. 

According to his firm bio, he joined the Ontario bar in 2006. He obtained his BCL/LLB from McGill University, his BA and BSc from McMaster University, and his CEP from the Institut d'études politiques (Lyon).
