McLeod Law LLP has announced the appointment of Jennifer Hanna, who has over two decades of experience in strategic tax structuring and cross-border transactions, as leader of its tax group, effective Oct. 20.
In her new role, she will head and collaborate with a team of tax lawyers in assisting clients across the Calgary-based law firm’s business and personal service areas, according to a news release from McLeod Law.
In its news release, McLeod Law stated that Hanna’s arrival and her strategic solutions would strengthen its integrated approach and its ability to guide clients through cross-border structuring, reorganizations, and high-value planning.
The firm shared that Hanna’s legal practice has covered complex corporate and international tax planning, including cross-border expansion, acquisitions, divestitures, post-acquisition integrations, corporate reorganizations, debt restructuring, financings, and Indigenous taxation.
Her client work has spanned various industries, such as infrastructure, oil and gas, mining, real estate, and technology. Beyond her legal practice, she has often written and spoken on corporate and international tax topics.

Most recently, she served as senior counsel at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) in Calgary from January 2020 to October 2025. Before that, she was an international tax partner at MNP, a national accounting firm, in Calgary from May 2014 to January 2020.
Hanna worked as a tax lawyer at Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP from October 2011 to May 2014, as a senior manager and senior associate at Ernst & Young in Calgary from November 2007 to October 2011, and as a tax lawyer at Heenan Blaikie LLP from 1998–2007.
She sat as a board member of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society from December 2017 to December 2021, according to her LinkedIn page.
Hanna earned her LLB with a concentration in taxation law from Western University in 1998 and her BSc (honours) in biology and philosophy from McMaster University in 1995.
